| Ο καλλιτέχνης Christoph Both-Asmus φόρεσε στο κεφάλι του έναν όγκο πάγου με άνθη. Κάθησε σε ένα παγκάκι κοιτάζοντας τον Κορινθιακό κόλπο και το βουνό των Γερανείων και ενώ ο πάγος έλιωνε το νερό άρχισε να στάζει και τα άνθη να πέφτουν στο έδαφος. Ο πάγος αντιπροσωπεύει τα δεινά της ζωής που αποτελούν σημαντικό κομμάτι της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης, ενώ τα λουλούδια, καθώς αποσυντίθενται, υποδηλώνουν τη γοητεία της ζωής που την κάνουν μοναδική. Σημαντική έννοια του έργου αυτού είναι ο χρόνος. Όπως επισημαίνει ο Christoph: «Στη φύση τα πράγματα παίρνουν το χρόνο τους. Πιστεύω ότι αυτό θα πρέπει να γίνει παράδειγμα για τις σύγχρονες κοινωνίες».
Με το έργο ONE LIFE TO LIVE (μια ζωή για να ζήσουμε) ο καλλιτέχνης πρόσφερε στους θεατές του μια ευκαιρία να πάρουν τον χρόνο τους και να σκεφτούν, μια σημαντική διαδικασία ιδίως σε περιόδους κρίσεως. Ο καλλιτέχνης ελπίζει ότι με το έργο αυτό μπόρεσε να προκαλέσει ένα είδος ‘αναγέννησης’. |
The artist Christoph Both-Asmus wore a solid ice object over his head, with blossoms frozen into the material. He sat on a bench looking at the Corinthian gulf and the Geraneia mountain and while the ice was melting, water and blossoms started to fall and drip to the ground. The ice represents the hardship of individual lives, which is part of the existence, while the flowers, within the process of melting, indicate the fascination for life which makes life worth living.The performance was a statement about taking time. As Christoph points out: “In nature, things take its time. I believe that this should be a guideline for progress in modern societies”.
Doing the performance ONE LIFE TO LIVE, the artist offered his audience an opportunity to take time and contemplate, an important procedure especially now in times of crises. The artist hopes that this process could lead to a regeneration. |

| Christoph Both-Asmus, CAP’s Artist-in-Residency from Berlin, Germany, is presenting a lecture about his long term project THE TREE WALKER.The central idea of THE TREE WALKER is to walk, almost weightlessly, on tree tops. This challenge; the search for a pristine looking forest, the technical issues to make this quest possible and financing it, kept Christoph Both-Asmus busy for over 6 years now.The artist will present videos and images, documentation of his journey that was both the high times of his life and artistic practise and a painful Odyssey.
THE TREE WALKER hopes to open an interesting discussion afterwards with his audience. Christoph is open to discuss practical aspects of organising a project and financing it as well.

Ο Christoph Both-Asmus, ο φιλοξενούμενος καλλιτέχνης του CAP από το Βερολίνο, Γερμανία, παρουσιάζει μια διάλεξη για το μακροπρόθεσμο έργο του THE TREE WALKER.Κεντρική ιδέα του THE TREE WALKER είναι να περπατήσει, σχεδόν αβαρής, στις κορυφές δέντρων. Αυτή η πρόκληση – η αναζήτηση ενός παρθένου δάσους, τα τεχνικά ζητήματα για την υλοποίηση και χρηματοδότησή της – έχει κρατήσει τον Christoph Both-Asmus απασχολημένο για πάνω από 6 χρόνια τώρα.Ο καλλιτέχνης θα παρουσιάσει βίντεο και εικόνες, τεκμήρια του ταξιδιού του που υπήρξαν από τις πιο υψηλές στιγμές της ζωής και της καλλιτεχνικής πρακτικής του, αλλά και μια οδυνηρή Οδύσσεια.
Ο “Δεντρο-περπατητής” ελπίζει να ανοίξει μια ενδιαφέρουσα συζήτηση αργότερα με το κοινό του. Ο Christoph θα είναι ανοικτός να μιλήσει για τις πρακτικές πτυχές, όπως και για τη χρηματοδότησή του εγχειρήματος αυτού. |

| Do you know anything about Corinth? What do you expect to achieve by participating in this residency? —-//—- Chr. – I hope to get to know the Greek mentality and to experience how Corinthians see life. I would also like to know how they do get by and what are the priorities in their day to day life. I am curious about the original Greek people, about what kind of music they are listening to, about their beliefs and their origins. I expect to learn about cultural diversity at the region of Corinth. (I am worried that we are losing our cultural diversity at the moment). | Γνωρίζεις κάτι σχετικά με την Κόρινθο; Τι περιμένεις να επιτύχεις με την συμμετοχή σου στο πρόγραμμα αυτό; —-//—- Chr. – Ελπίζω να γνωρίσω την Ελληνική νοοτροπία και να βιώσω το πώς βλέπουν τη ζωή οι Κορίνθιοι. Επίσης θα ήθελα να μάθω πώς τα βγάζουν πέρα και ποιές είναι οι προτεραιότητές στην καθημερινότητα τους. Είμαι περίεργος σχετικά με τον αυθεντικό Έλληνα, για το τι είδος μουσικής ακούει, για τις πεποιθήσεις του και την προέλευση του. Προσδοκώ να αποκτήσω γνώση σχετικά με την πολιτιστική ποικιλομορφία στην περιοχή της Κορίνθου. (Ανησυχώ οτι χάνουμε την πολιτιστική μας πολυμορφία αυτήν τη στιγμή). |
| What can art do for Greece at the moment? —-//—- Chr. – When art is good, it is completed by the thoughts and emotions of the audience. Hence, art could encourage and help people to find solutions. In any case, whatever people find in art is of a true value( for the particular person or community),because it has been found through an effort and that is the key factor to believe in something or to know something. At the opposite you can never be sure when someone tells you what to think or feel. |
Τι μπορεί να κάνει η τέχνη για την Ελλάδα αυτήν τη στιγμή; —-//—- Chr. – Όταν η τέχνη είναι καλή, ολοκληρώνεται από τις σκέψεις και τα συναισθήματα του κοινού. Ως εκ τούτου, η τέχνη θα μπορούσε να ενθαρρύνει και να βοηθήσει τους ανθρώπους να βρουν λύσεις. Σε κάθε περίπτωση, οτιδήποτε βρίσκουν οι άνθρωποι στην τέχνη είναι πραγματικής αξίας (για το συγκεκριμένο πρόσωπο ή την κοινότητα), επειδή έχει ανακαλυφθεί μέσα από μια προσπάθεια κι αυτός είναι ο βασικός παράγοντας για να πιστέψεις σε κάτι ή να γνωρίσεις κάτι. Αντιθέτως , δεν μπορείς ποτέ να είσαι σίγουρος οταν κάποιος σου λέει τι να σκεφτείς ή τι να αισθανθείς. |
| Are you planning on creating something that will remain in the city? —-//—- Chr. – Yes, it might be something permanent or it might change during the process. It might even only be a lingering atmosphere. | Σχεδιάζεις να δημιουργήσεις κάτι που θα παραμείνει στην πόλη; —-//—- Chr. – Ναι, θα μπορούσε να είναι κάτι μόνιμο ή θα μπορούσε να αλλάξει κατά την διάρκεια της διαδικασίας. Θα μπορούσε ακόμη και να είναι μόνο μια παρατεταμένη ατμόσφαιρα |
| How do you take your audience into consideration? —-//—- Chr. – I plan to invite people to be present while my work will be happening. | Πώς λαμβάνεις υπόψη το ακροατήριο σου; —-//—- Chr. – Σκοπεύω να προσκαλέσω τον κόσμο να δώσει το παρών ενώ θα διαδραματίζεται το έργο μου. |
| What do you expect from the Corinthians? —-//—- Chr. – I hope that they will be open to be enchanted. | Τι περιμένεις από τους Κορίνθιους; —-//—- Chr. -Ελπίζω ότι θα είναι ανοιχτοί να σαγηνευτούν. |
| Will the type of art you will make be different because of the crisis? —-//—- Chr. – No, but it might be perceived differently. I think the interpretations, the value that people will get from my art will be influenced by the crisis | Θα είναι το είδος της τέχνης που θα κάνεις διαφορετικό λόγω της κρίσης; —-//—- Chr. – Όχι, αλλά μπορεί να ληφθεί διαφορετικά. Νομίζω ότι οι ερμηνείες, η αξία που οι άνθρωποι θα πάρουν από την τέχνη μου θα επηρεαστούν από την κρίση. |
Christoph Both-Asmus CV (*1984, Germany)
Christoph Both-Asmus (b. 1984, Germany) is currently living and working in Berlin. In 2010 he completed his MFA at the Sandberg Institute for Fine Arts in Amsterdam (NL). Both-Asmus’ interdisciplinary work mainly focuses on video, mixed media installation and sculpture as well as site-specific sculptures . He creates his work often with natural artefacts, living organisms and organic materials such as plants, ice, animals and blood. He exhibited amongst the greatest art shows around Europe, including Art Pie Amsterdam, Istanbul Art Fair and Re:Rotterdam. In recent years the artist exhibited together with fellow documenta artist and director of the London Biennale David Medalla and Venice Biennale artist Pedro Calapez. After being funded by the Mondriaan Fund Amsterdam in 2011 and 2012 he has been concentrating on the realisation of the ambitious mixed media project The Tree Walker.
